Designed for a thumb, not a mouse
PG Soft builds its games with mobile in mind, and Mahjong Ways 2 is a textbook example. It plays comfortably on a phone held upright. The grid, the spin button and the multiplier counter all fit on one screen without rotating the display.
The theme comes from mahjong: the symbols are tiles with characters and coloured patterns. Anyone who knows the first game will find their way instantly.
The game works on a computer too, but its layout is clearly drawn for a narrow screen – more on that on our mobile play page.

The 96.95% RTP is the studio’s figure. An operator may run the game with a different setting, so the number that applies to you is in the in-game information.
One win that triggers the next
- Spin. Tiles fill the grid, including the extra row above reels 2 to 4.
- The win disappears. Winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in from above – that is a cascade.
- A gold tile transforms. If a gold symbol was part of the win, it does not vanish but turns into a wild.
- Next cascade. The new wild can help form another win, and the chain continues until no new combination appears.
It is step four that makes the game more than an ordinary slot. One good spin can stretch over several cascades in a row.
And sometimes nothing happens at all.
Free spins and a multiplier climbing to x10
In the bonus phase a rising multiplier is in play. It increases with cascades and tops out at x10. How fast it grows and how many free spins are awarded is set out in the in-game paytable – we deliberately do not repeat those details here.
The combination of a rising multiplier and gold tiles turning into wilds explains why the biggest wins are concentrated in the bonus.
A 100,000× cap with medium volatility: a contradiction?
A high cap and medium volatility seem to clash at first. In fact they describe two different things. Volatility says how much the results of regular play swing. The cap sets the theoretical peak the rules allow for an extremely rare combination of cascades and multiplier.
Illustrative example (not Dukat.bet parameters): on a theoretical 1,000 EUR wagered, an RTP of 96.95% corresponds to a long-run average of 969.50 EUR returned to players. That average includes extreme wins most players will never see – a normal session strays from it in both directions.
So the cap is an interesting fact about the game’s maths. As a plan for a single session, it does not work.
Who Mahjong Ways 2 is for
The game suits someone who plays mainly on a phone, likes cascades and wants medium variance rather than extreme swings. It also works well as an entry point into the modern category for a player who has only known classic slots so far.
Those looking for sharper maths with volatility at the top of the scale will find it at Hacksaw Gaming instead – for example in Densho. How PG Soft and Hacksaw differ in their approach to data and design is compared in our category guide.
Slots Bonus and a PG Soft game
For slots, Dukat.bet promotes the Slots Bonus – 500% up to 3,000 EUR + 15% Cashback. Whether Mahjong Ways 2 counts towards the terms, what the game’s contribution is and what the wagering requirements are, check in the official bonus terms. A bonus does not change the game’s RTP and brings no assured profit.
